Movie Review: "You, Me & Tuscany" - When Being Delulu Actually Works Out

Hey Mofos! It’s movie review tiiiiiiiime!

This time I went to check out the film You, Me & Tuscany, starring Halle Bailey as Anna, the sweetest little delulu drifter you ever did see, who will smile her way through a lie like it’s part of her life plan. And of course, Bridgerton bae, Regé-Jean Page, as Michael, the fine cousin who shows up with that dang accent and abs and immediately complicates everything.

Here’s the synopsis:

You, Me & Tuscany follows Anna, a young woman who has put her dreams of becoming a chef on hold and is just out here drifting. After losing her job and her housing at the same time, she takes a spontaneous trip to Tuscany after meeting Matteo, who just so happens to have access to an empty villa.

What is supposed to be one night turns into a full situation when Matteo’s mother shows up and assumes Anna is his fiancée. Instead of correcting her, Anna leans all the way into the lie like she is doing the Smooth Criminal MJ dance… and stays.

Now let’s talk about Anna.

She is sweet. Almost too sweet. Like the type of sweet that gives you a whole headache.

Like smile through chaos, everything will work out, this is fine… even when it is very much not fine.

And that sweetness mixed with her delusion? It will either make you root for her or want to shake her a little. Because girl… you just broke into a whole lifestyle and decided to commit. IN ITALY!

But here’s the wild part… it works.

Her lie opens doors. It gives her access. It creates opportunities she was not giving herself in her real life. So now you’re sitting there like… wait a minute… is being delulu actually the solu lu?

Matteo is not innocent either. He sees what is going on and instead of shutting it down, he lets it ride because it works for him too. A little disrespectful? Yes. But also very realistic.

Then Michael shows up and now we have a problem.

Because now it is not just about maintaining a lie. Now real feelings are involved. And Anna has to figure out if she is going to keep playing a role or actually be honest about who she is.

Also… that man is fine. Let’s not skip over that.

Anna’s best friend Claire is the comedic relief we needed. She checks Anna in the most real way, calls out the foolishness, but still loves her through it. Every time she popped in I was like THANK YOU, somebody with sense.

And Matteo’s grandma… listen. She knew something wasn’t clean in the milk the entire time. The looks she was giving? I was so tickled. She wasn’t saying much, but her face was doing all the work like “I’m not buying this, but let me see how far y’all gonna take it.” Listen, elders know all chile.

Matteo’s sister? Whew. Freaky in the best way. She added just enough chaos to keep things interesting.

The taxi driver was also one of my favorites. Just out here driving, observing, and minding Anna's business. Who doesn't need a hype-man when it comes to getting you to believe in a romantic love story before it even happens.

Now let’s talk about Tuscany because this movie will have you ready to book a flight, wander into a vineyard, stumble into a rich man’s house, and just… stay.

I’m not saying I would do what Anna did… but I understand.

What I took from this film is that it is okay to set the heaviness of grief to the side. Not ignore it, but not let it keep you stuck either. Anna has been sitting in her life, not moving, not choosing herself. And while her choices are questionable, they push her forward.

Sometimes you have to drop the mask you have been hiding behind and actually go live your life.

Even if it starts a little messy and chaotic.

Also, real question… how were they eating those thick sandwiches with no water anywhere in sight? Not one sip. I was stressed. STRESSED OUT..like are they gonna choke on that dry bread like that!?

Overall, You, Me & Tuscany, by Will Packer, is a fun, messy, slightly delusional romantic escape that will have you questioning your life choices… and maybe booking a trip to Italy. It might even have you believing that being in the wrong place is exactly what gets you to the right one.

The film opens in theaters on April 10. Let me know if you go see it and if you're also heading to Tuscany!
