I'm back with another movie review.
This time it's for the indie film Breakup Season.

Breakup Season follows a young man bringing his girlfriend to his rural Oregon hometown for Christmas to meet his family, only for things to go terribly wrong upon arrival.
The film stars Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead), Samantha Isler (Molly's Game, Captain Fantastic), James Urbaniak (Oppenheimer, Venture Brothers), Brook Hogan, Carly Stewart, and Jacob Wysocki (Pitch Perfect, Unfriended).
I'm going to be brutally honest, the film moved a bit slow for me and my attention span and it took me a couple of days to watch it, but let's dig in shall we?
Cassie and Ben are the central characters and they go to Ben's family's home for the holidays. Just like what y'all call situation-ships these days, these two have different ideas about their relationship, one has more feelings than the other. Miscommunication is the mofo of em all ain't it? Cassie tells Ben she thinks it's best they call it quits and she should just leave the next day.
Lemme tell you who tickled me--Ben's sister Liz, played by Carly Stewart. Anyway, just as life usually has it, when you have plans, God says HAHAHAAA LEMME SHOW YOUUUUU and Cassie is stuck thanks to a snowstorm preventing her from fleeing, so she has to suck it up buttercup and deal with Ben and his family.
Ben seems sweet and he tries his hardest to fix things and Cassie keeps throwing up walls. Does this sound familiar in your own life? I know it does in a previous relationship or two for me. But, the film is this back and forth that you get to decide whose side if any you want to be on. It also shows that sometimes ish just doesn't work no matter what. You can't force it, you just have to let it be.
A holiday family gathering isn't complete without the rest of the household!
Ben's mother Mia (Brook Hogan) and father Kirby (James Urbaniak) showcase a close relationship, even trying to console their son while being a soft place for Cassie to land when needed.
Liz is also struggling with feeling stuck in her relationship and maybe that's why I relate to her, I've been there, all while struggling to be the content creator. Liz, girl. Meanwhile surly older brother Gordon (Jacob Wysocki) is a sourpuss since his own marriage fell apart. So it makes for interesting sibling dynamics and shade with their various points of view.
The film is a great reminder to really weigh the pros and cons of your relationship if you feel like something just ain't right, and it is also a reminder FOR ME, to keep my siblings out of my business LOL.
