Valentine's Day Recipe: Baking with Lily's Chocolates

Saturday, February 13, 2021

 Hey Mofos!

Happy Valentine's Day! Are you spending it with your loved one? Me-- chile.. that's another story. BUT I did participate in a fun virtual baking session to learn how to make Valentine's Day treats with Lily's chocolates. Listen, this is important because I wanted some desserts, but with less sugar and the dark chocolate is helping my low iron issue! (Yes, dark chocolate has some great benefits)!

So I hopped on the zoom to attempt to bake (and I'm not a baker by any means) with "Mean Girls" actor and author of The Burn Cookbook Jonathan Bennett and chef Nikki Martin. Chile, the shade he threw that I caught from my questions was epic and I loved it! I think I'm more impressed that I owned a cast iron skillet. So grab the ingredients below and make your sweetie a Lily’s Sweets BE MINE Dark Chocolate Skillet Brownie.

Ingredients:

• 1 Stick Unsalted Butter

• 2 Organic Eggs

• 2 Tsp Pure Vanilla Extract

• ½ cup Caster Sugar

• ¼ cup plus 1 teaspoon All-Purpose Flour, Divided

• 1 Lily’s Sweets Dark Chocolate Baking Bar

• 8 ounces Lily’s Sweets Dark Chocolate Chips

• 1 teaspoon Baking Powder

• ¼ teaspoon Sea Salt

• Toppings: Fresh Raspberries or Strawberries

How to Make:

1. Preheat the oven to 365 degrees. In a medium bowl over a gently simmering pan of

water, melt the butter, 4 ounces of chocolate chips, and the Lily’s Sweets Dark

Chocolate Bar. Once melted, remove bowl of chocolate mixture from water and set

aside.

2. In a separate (large) bowl, gently stir together the eggs, vanilla and sugar. Slowly

combine the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and allow to cool to room

temperature. In a medium bowl, sift the 1/4 cup of the flour, the baking powder and

salt, then combine with the chocolate mixture.

3. Coat the remaining 4 ounces of Lily’s Sweets Dark Chocolate Chips with the last bit of

flour (1 teaspoon) and then toss them into the chocolate mixture and stir. Should be a

thick batter type consistency.

4. Spoon batter into 2 or 3 cast iron skillets that are 3.5 inches in diameter or 1 larger

skillet. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a knife comes out of center clean!

5. Top with fresh raspberries or strawberries and more Lily’s Sweets Dark Chocolate

Chips.

Here's my finished product-- I added some walnuts! I also licked the bowl and the spoon after! Don't you judge me!

Y'all I also realized that baking is like a sport in itself and the way my nerves are set up--a once in a while event. I did take a couple of short cuts like melting the chocolate and butter in the microwave because my patience is on zero LOL.  But this was a delish dessert that didn't take long to make!

So let me know if you make the brownie and what you think!

Happy Valentine's Day!
