Hey Mofos!

TWO IN A ROW! I knooooowwww! This time I went to check out the rom com The Idea of You. Let's just say I am in my feelings now. But let's get into the deets.

The film is based on a love story of the same name. The Idea of You is centered around  Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.

The way they meet is so insane, because chile, DOES THIS EVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE?!

Solène chaperones her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes when she goes into his trailer to use the bathroom. Like, how did she not know she should go to the itty bitty uncomfortable bathroom in port-a-john land?

Sparks fly and he even dedicates a song to her during the August Moon performance. SWOOOOOOON. Of course after that, their whirlwind romance begins as he finds her at her art gallery. The two drop their guard and almost their drawls.

As a woman of a certain age, it's not hard to wonder what if? When he invites her to visit, things get steamy and the adventure of a lifetime for a single mom in the world of glitz and glamour takes off. Of course, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for. After all, she is a sensible mom that's worried about her daughter, and what her family and friends might think.

So it got me to thinking, she tells Hayes at one point she is ashamed, and being close to her age, I get it. It's like we want to have a man that we can be proud of and show off to the world, but when we're happy, there's always this threat of doubt that it can all come crumbling down. She also was ashamed because of the age difference, but SHE WAS HAPPY! Why can't women just be happy? He was old enough and when some ragglass men do the exact same thing--it's okay? She had so many haters in internet land because this pop star chose to do what made him happy, and be with her. Ugh.

It also got me to thinking, why can't we all have an escape into a rom com and things unfold like the perfect meet cute, the whirlwind romance, a couple light speed bumps, but then the fairytale works out happily ever after? I guess cuz life be life-ing and it doesn't work that way. But this film is a great escape to wonder, WHAT IF?

I love this film celebrates middle-aged women and how we're still sexy, fun, and full of laughs and adventure. I love the intimate ok the secks scenes because just because she's middle aged doesn't mean she can't get it in! It's also a film that shows it's never too late for love. *insert me in my feelings*

One thing the film got right was August Moon, because you couldn't tell me this wasn't a real boy band. Hayes gave Harry Styles energy and I was here for it all. He wasn't the typical 20-something year old with lots of money, hoes and clothes. He was wise beyond his years and actually showed emotion when ish hurt. COME THRU TEARS!

The Idea of You, an Amazon MGM Studios release, directed by Michael Showalter, premieres on Prime on May 2.

I'm curious, if you could live out a fantasy with your favorite pop star or celebrity, who would it be?

 Hey Mofos!

I know it's been a minute but I'm back with another film review!!

This time I went to check out the film, The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

Before I start this-- let me just say, if I didn't already love Ryan in Barbie, I am full fledge FAN GIRL after seeing The Fall Guy!

Chile, that man is FINE!

Ryan Gosling is Colt Seavers in THE FALL GUY, directed by David Leitch

Back to the review. Here's the synopsis from a press release:

*******

Oscar® nominee Ryan Gosling (Barbie, La La Land, Drive) stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie—being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, played by Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place films, Sicario)—goes missing.

While the film’s ruthless producer (Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham; Ted Lasso), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Golden Globe winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson; Bullet Train) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces. But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.

Inspired by the hit 1980s TV series, The Fall Guy also stars Winston Duke (Black Panther franchise) and Academy Award® nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

******

Ok now that's out of the way, I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I noticed right out the gate was THE CHEMISTRY between Gosling and Blunt as Colt and Jody. The playfulness on set as they try not to let their other co-workers, who probably ALREADY KNEW, out of their flirty biz to the awkward reunion. From the moment the film started, I was watching behind my hand because I was so nervous knowing this film was the behind the scenes of a well, a stunt guy. I was not expecting to be on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Colt has a scary accident ending his career, or so he thought, but in typical woe is me male fashion, he pushes the lady in his life away without a peep. Now I'm mad at fine ass Colt for the ghosting move, but this also brings to mind that sometimes we ASSume someone is done with us and doesn't want to be with us, not even knowing what they are dealing with on the battlefield inside their minds. Not excusing him triflin ways, but I'm just saying mental health on top of a physical ailment is a thing.

Which reminds me, during the film, it's as if nobody remembers he had a back injury when he is pulled back into the limelight to save Jody's film. She takes out her frustrations on him, which I'm not mad at cuz he low or high key deserved it, but I fully expected him to pop an ibuprofen, rub some icy hot on or something!

I love how during the film it's a flirty chase between Jody and Colt's will they do it or not fling/romance with it's mixture of banter, misunderstandings, and emotional turmoil. I would love to see more of these two in a film together..IT WORKS!

I also enjoyed Winston Duke as the stunt coordinator because the comedic timing between him and Gosling, is the bromance we didn't know we needed. I swear I hope they are friends in real life.

The producer lady sucking on those diet cokes was so reminiscent of what I imagined producers in the 80s were like, except insert a TAB drink.. remember those?

The film comes from real life stunt man and director David Leitch, the blockbuster director of films like Deadpool 2, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. The film is a hilarious love letter with wall to wall action that is packed on the movie sets and its real world. The script was written by Drew Pierce.

Another lesson I learned from this film, that real love will prevail no matter the distance or the producer in the background pulling the strings. This is an example of giving love a chance and using words instead of a thumbs up to communicate. It's also nice to see how Colt wants Jody to be successful that he goes above and beyond for that to happen.

The real stars of the film were definitely the Fall Guys aka the stunt men that made it all happen, cuz lawd, jeezus, the way my nerves were tore up watching this.

Universal Picture The Fall Guy is in theaters on May 3, and is rated PG-13. Running time: 126 minutes.

This one is definitely a must-see! Let me know if you go see it and what you think!

What's shaking Mofoville? Not that dayum Harlem Shake 2013 version that's for sure..but anyhoo..

With this new year I decided it's time to break up with my couch and get out of the house more and meet some new folks. I had heard about this "meet up" thing and decided eh why not?

So this weekend I went to my first Meet Up Group, Sista Girl Saturday to be exact and the topic is what drew me to the event, "The Cost of Love"....

Now, my first instinct was to recall all the time, money, and energy spent into King Mofo and the rest of these lames, but I was curious about what other people had to say about their situations.

Don't get me wrong the meet up was enlightening, but I felt like it turned into a "please tell me how to find a man" type of discussion. *blink*

But for those rare moments the discussion didn't veer to the left, I learned that often times love does come at some cost. So I thought about it, what did it cost me?

5. A monetary value could be inserted here, *punches calculator like Madea* Chrimus presents, birthday presents, dinners, lunch, breakfast, movies, hell rent and car payments (don't give me that look, we've all been a victim of the act crazy as hell for love and some good ding ding syndrome)= an amount that is outta order..

4. Sometimes in love it has cost me my self esteem, especially when you get your heart stomped on, chewed up and spit back at you. Ish hurts, and if you get cheated on, you can't help but wonder..WHY LAWD WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! *side note..if you haven't had those kind of thoughts when you've been cheated on..well.. you lying*

3. Love has cost me my good sense at times. How many nights did I wonder where a ninja was, and go driving by his house, complete with my hair scarf on and pj's? *Ladies, don't act like I'm the only one that did this ish in my 20's*

2. Love has cost me other relationships. Being in love, getting my heart and face cracked multiple times by the same dude, makes Meik Meik a gal that just can't trust a mofo, and has the Berlin Wall built up around my lil ole damaged heart and feelings. Over the years I have met some great guys (I'm sure you can't tell by the blog, but hey I only like blogging on the foolishness and ratchet dates) but because I had trust issues and self esteem drama, I passed...now I'm looking crazy, healed and ready to love while they are all married and boo'd up. DAMN YOU CUPID!

1. When I thought I was in love with King Mofo, eh hell, I guess I was since I stayed with the bas...I mean dude for 8 years, I lost a part of myself..costing myself.. well..myself. I have done a major disservice to myself because I didn't know who I was without King Mofo. Granted it took a long while, a lot of tears, anger, cursing, and he still drives me insane from afar, but I learned (hence a few blogs ago) I have moved on, and am able to embrace ME...MEIK and love ME.

The one thing that I never paid for because of love, was losing my friends and family. I'm not the type of chick to forget folks just cuz I'm dating someone, hell I need my Meik time. Anyhoo, the point I'm tryin to make here is, you never really realize how expensive that mofo Love can be until you're able to step back and really think about how and what it cost you.
So the moral of the story is Nick Cannon and Christina Milian (ie the movie they were in for the slow folks) and that damn Jenny from the block Lopez lied.. Love DOES cost a few things.

So dear readers in Mofoville.. What has love cost you?

Until later
Meik
